Good morning sensei, here we have lots of karate styles, actually What is Karate in your view?
Good morning, Karate is a sports for self defense, physical fitness and discipline. It is not only the physical exercise, but also a education and mental strengthen tool. It is an art to achieve all these, and also like personality, self confidence, cool decision power etc.

When did you start your martial arts training?
I started kyokushin when I was 20. Sensei Jagat Gauchan, taught me kyokushin at that time.
Chapain
You have started training in Kyokushin, then moved to Taekwondo, then Shito-ryu and now in kwanmukan. Why you have changed in regular time?
To answer it, first it should be better to make clear concept about martial art. The origin of any sector of martial art is same. Just the time make its changed to define it in a particular way. I had started Kyokushi, as I had understood it as a powerful karate style. It is really powerful and I enjoyed it. Later then, I got a chance to get training of Taekwondo in Korea. As you know, korea is one of the origin place of modern martial art, I had reached there and gained training from Shihan Mr. Shing. I had taken 5 years training from him. It was just the opportunity and I enjoyed there. After the trainig I participated in World Kyokushin Championship held in japan. Fortunately, Mr. George E Endersen was also there, he was impressed by my fighting art. He suggest me to meet his seriously and start Kwanmukan in Nepal.
Later then, I got a chance to took training from respectable shihan Mas Oyama, the founder of kyokushin in the central dojo in Japan. So I moved there and again joined kyokushin and took training about four years. Then I returned to my home country Nepal. At that time, I got a chance to trained Shito-ryu players, and as you know all the karate events are almost same, I had done my job well.
Later I went to USA to meet Sensei Endersen, and I had started Kwanmukan here in Nepal.

Why to play martial art, karate and specially kwanmukan?
I have already told, martial art is an art of self defense and is very important to maintain the physical fitness and healthy body. Martial art has to play to achieve all these. Karate is a powerful art which is for the strengthen of power rather than the demonstration and kwanmukan is one of the most powerful way of karate managed effectively all over the world.
Chapain
What was your early training like in Japan?
In the beginning, it was very different because tournament sparring had not yet really taken off in Nepal. We trained mainly for self-defense and for self interest. As I did more study, I came to know that, martial art is a great art and education, and so I requested to kwanmukan headquarter in japan for further training, and I got a chance.
When I came to Japan, I found that the kyokushin is a great art to play. I had trained with the founder sensei mas. oyama. Training from Oyama made me really a sound player of kyokushin, and that gave the result in World Kyukoshin Championship held in japan on 1995. It was really a memorable day for me. My opponent was Philippine, who was very tall than me. Probably, I was the shortest player of the tournament, but I had played well with him. In starting, he punched me and I was misbalanced, I feel as I was loosing the game. So, I decided to show the techniques that I knew, rather than to win the match. I had done it, and also win the game. That made Sensei Endersen impressed and had called me for the dinner. And after than, it proceed to enter kwanmukan in Nepal.
Chapain
How kwanmukan entered in Nepal?
As I have just told you, Sensei Endersen was impressed called me for the dinner. I had taken dinner with him, and meanwhile, he had sugested me to lunch kwanmukan in Nepal. He is the founder of USA karate federation and kwanmukan is also the major part of it. Then I had returned back to my country Nepal, then gone to USA for kwanmukan training and finally lunch it in Nepal in 2000.
Chapain
What is Kwanmukan?
Kwanmukan is a combination of five martial art styles, taekwondo, karate, kubedo, Judo and Jujistsu. This is a semi contact karate.
Chapain
How you define the situation of kwanmukan in Nepal?
Kwanmukan was lunched in 2000. In this period of about six years, kwanmukan is well established, and now we have the regular training in 20 dozos.
We regularly participating in World Kwanmukan Championship since third world kwanmukan in Scotland.
We also successfully organized first all karate open international championship in 5 to 10 January 2005 in kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.Players are in regular training, and definitely we have the great hope from them in near future.
Chapain
How the kwanmukan can be compared with other karate?
Basic things of all karate are same. Just some techniques are different. We also played under the World Karate Federation Rules. And, as you know, if you play under the KWF rules, that means all are almost same.
Chapain
What you like to suggest to Nepal Karate Federation and National Sports Council for the development of martial art. ?
The most important thing that these two martial art's great sectors have to give more priority to the players rather than the association officials. They must have to regularly organize long term close camps. Foreign instructors of specialized sensei have to be brought for the training. And the most important thing that they have to do is to search the sponsors for the martial art events. They have to talk with big business houses and industries. They must have to lunch the long term planning to professionalize martial art here in Nepal.
